Music of the Baroque Period
(1600 - 1750)

The time period from 1600 - 1750 is known in history as the Baroque Period in music. While the word baroque has been known to mean bizzare and elaborately ornamented, historians use the term to identify an artistic style that may be characterized by saying the artist fills a space with action and movement.

Influences on the baroque style of music include the rise of the middle class who commissioned artistic works and the church who used the more dramatic qualities of music to make worship more appealing.

The baroque period can be divided into three phases of development: Select a link below to enter the world of the baroque.

The architecture, fashion, and art also reflected the style of the period.
